Review spam and comment spam is a major problem all across the Internet. Several years ago some people got together to try to help curb this menace. And thus was born StopForumSpam.com – a site dedicated to tracking spammers by email address and IP address.
With this plugin active, every time someone tries to register on your site’s My Account page, or tries to post a product review, or comment to a post or page on your site, WooCommerce Spam Stopper kicks into action. It intercepts the poster’s email address and tries to determine the poster’s real IP address and then cross reference that data with the Stop Forum Spam data using their API.
If the checking at Stop Forum Spam results in a confidence level of 50% or higher then that the poster is a spammer and this plugin prevents them from registering and/or posting reviews and comments.
It’s that simple. There is no documentation for this plugin. Just activate the plugin and you’re done – it works as a “set it and forget it” plugin.
Stop Forum Spam isn’t fool proof, but it goes a long way towards curbing spammers from abusing your site.
